Shinki Hikaku Horsebutt – Black
The Railmaster Engineer Boot is our most historically faithful interpretation of the classic engineer boot to date, built directly from an original 1940s pair preserved in John’s personal archive. Carefully studied and recreated, the design reflects the period when engineer boots first emerged during the industrial expansion of the late 1930s and early 1940s.
Before becoming mainly associated with motorcycle culture in the early 1950s, engineer boots were worn by railmen, men on construction sites, and factory workers who relied on their durability and ease of wear. The tall pull-on construction provided protection, while adjustable straps allowed for a secure, adaptable fit.
The Railmaster captures the proportions and character of these early examples, featuring a more refined, anatomical toe shape true to the period.
Crafted from premium Shinki Hikaku horsebutt leather that will develop a rich teacore patina with wear. Built in Japan by skilled artisans, it features original John Lofgren Bootmaker buckles, soles, and heels, modeled after authentic 1940s examples.
