Chorlton Neighbourhood Guide - Manchester's Coolest Suburb

If you're visiting Auteur Store in Chorlton, you've landed in one of Manchester’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.

Chorlton is known for its bohemian charm and independent spirit, where you’ll find everything from cozy cocktail bars and authentic eateries to design-focused furniture shops and classic record stores.

It’s a lively area with something for every taste, and each spot is just a short walk or tram ride away.

Here’s a guide to help you make the most of your visit.

The Jane Eyre Chorlton - @thejaneeyrechorlton

Situated directly across from Auteur Store on Beech Road, The Jane Eyre brings neighbourhood warmth with a side of innovation. We love popping in for a quick drink after a long day, as this bar serves up inventive cocktails and seasonal dishes in a cosy, social atmosphere. It’s perfect for catching up with friends or trying something new while soaking up Chorlton’s unique vibe.

Department - @department_manchester

For anyone with an appreciation for thoughtful design, Department is a must-visit. This furniture store is like a treasure trove; we often lose track of time exploring their vintage mid-century and Scandinavian-inspired pieces. Their collection includes stunning works by design legends like Johannes Andersen and Verner Panton, along with unique items from local makers. It’s not just a furniture store; it’s a spot to discover something timeless for your home.

Address: 477 Barlow Moor Road
Getting there: A short walk from Chorlton Metrolink, on Barlow Moor Road.

Bar San Juan - @barsanjuan

Bar San Juan transports visitors straight to Spain with authentic, hearty tapas in an intimate, lively setting. Established in 2010, this beloved local spot has been a go-to for us since its opening. For years, you could not book a table, and queues of customers would spill onto the road, drinking sangria and Spanish beers until a table came free. Thankfully, you can now book, but make sure to do it early, as tables rarely come up. With its small, vibrant space and warm ambience, Bar San Juan makes you feel like you’ve stumbled into a hidden corner of Spain right in the heart of Chorlton.

Address: 56 Beech Road
Getting there: A quick walk from either Chorlton or St Werburgh’s Road Metrolink stations.

The Pizza Trio
Chorlton is a true pizza destination, home to three standout pizzerias, each with its own
approach to this classic. It’s a fierce debate among locals who make the best pizza in Chorlton, and we must admit, we find ourselves torn!

● Nell’s Pizza at The Beagle - @nellspizza: Known for New York-style slices that
balance a crispy crust with a soft, foldable centre. We love their slow-fermented dough
and local ingredients; it’s an environmentally conscious, flavorful choice. Plus, pairing a
large pizza with a drink from The Beagle makes for a perfect evening.
Address: 456-458 Barlow Moor Road

Rudy’s - @wearerudyspizza: Known for its traditional Neapolitan pizzas, Rudy’s is
certified by the AVPN for authenticity. We adore their double-fermented pizzas; the light,
airy base really makes the classic flavours shine.
Address: 577 Barlow Moor Road

Double Zero - @double_zero_pizzeria Famed for its soft, chewy Neapolitan crusts,
Double Zero makes its dough with just four ingredients and bakes each pizza in under
90 seconds in a Naples-imported wood-fired oven. We can’t get enough of their
authentic Italian flavours!
Address: 368 Barlow Moor Road
Getting there: All three are located along Barlow Moor Road, just minutes from Chorlton
Metrolink.

Henry C - @wearehenryc
A cozy cocktail bar with a neighborhood feel, Henry C has been serving Chorlton since 2016, and it quickly became one of our favourite spots. They focus on cocktails with a classic twist, and not only do they make one of the best Negronis in Manchester, but on Negroni Thursdays, they are just £6! It’s the perfect place to unwind with a quality drink, whether looking for something unique or sticking with a classic. Situated opposite the Unicorn Grocery, it’s easy to find and worth the visit for a mellow evening out.

Address: 107 Manchester Road
Getting there: Just a few minutes walk from Chorlton’s Metrolink stop, near Unicorn Grocery.

Epicerie Ludo - @epicerieludo
Epicerie Ludo is a charming fine grocery and wine merchant right in the heart of Chorlton
Green. We love stopping by for its curated selection of gourmet foods, wines, and quality
ingredients; it’s a local gem for hard-to-find items like Isle of Harris Gin. With a warm, welcoming vibe, it’s a delight for food lovers like us who are looking to discover quality and unique flavours.

Address: 46 Beech Road
Getting there: A short walk from either Chorlton or St Werburgh’s Road Metrolink stations.

Kingbee Records - @kingbeerecords
For over 35 years, Kingbee Records has been a beloved institution for vinyl collectors and
music lovers. We can easily spend hours flipping through their vast collection of new and used records spanning all genres. Its a fantastic stop for anyone looking to expand their musiccollection or discover a hidden gem. Known for its friendly staff and welcoming vibe, Kingbee has long been one of our local favourites.

Address: 19 Wilbraham Road
Getting there: Around the corner from Chorlton Metrolink, on Wilbraham Road.

With each spot a short stroll from the tram stops, Chorlton is packed with character and a fantastic range of local businesses, offering visitors a taste of Manchester’s community-driven, creative spirit. Enjoy the area!
